2. Pelvic floor and Trauma (Registration Closed)

The pelvic floor plays a fundamental role in women's health, especially female bodies. It gives us so much information about the anxieties and distresses of our internal worlds and also, how we feel in our external environments. The health and nurturing of our pelvic floor is crucial not just in our sexual health, but also in our overall health and functioning.
Pelvic floor dysfunction takes many forms and 60% of female bodies experience some form of pelvic floor distress. Pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, bowel and the uterus and prevent incontinence of bladder and bowel, prolapse and are also important in sexual function, yet we don't talk about them enough. The pelvic floor is impacted by hormonal changes, childbearing, menopause, surgery, changes in lifestyle, trauma and so much more. We also don't have enough information about the response of the pelvic floor to trauma - not just sexual trauma but also, its other forms. A traumatic childbirth, surgery etc. also can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction. This is the gap I want to fill through this workshop.
